FHWA Seeks Self-Insurance Comments

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has issued an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) requesting comments on self-insurance requirements for motor carriers. The agency wants to “examine the sufficiency of the existing requirements for self-insurance authorizations, as well as the need for additional fees for functions performed in addition to the processing of the initial application.” It is also seeking comment on whether the self-insurance option should be continued.
Comments should be submitted no later than Nov. 24, 1997 to FHWA docket No. MC-97-11, Room 4232, HCC-10, Office of Motor Carriers, Federal Highway Administration, 400 Seventh Street, SW, Washington, D.C. 20590.
For information contact John F. Grimm, Office of Motor Carriers, (202) 366-4039, or Stanley M. Braverman, Motor Carrier Law Division, Office of the Chief Counsel, (202) 358-7035.
