CDL Changes Considered

Look for Congress and the Department of Transportation to consider changes to the Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Consensus is emerging among policy makers that the CDL doesn’t do a good enough job of ensuring that drivers are safe. Among the options: A “biometric identifier” to help ensure that drivers are unable to obtain multiple licenses; and, tougher knowledge and skills tests before a license is granted.
