Navistar Simplifies Medium Truck Spec’ing, Ordering

Navistar International has extended its Diamond Spec program, a streamlined specifying and ordering system, to its International 4000 Series.
Launched in October 1996 for its 9000 series premium conventionals (see HDT December 1996, page 130), the program allows buyers to base custom vehicle specs on a series of component packages and reduces order-to-delivery time, said Don DeFosset, Navistar executive vp/president-truck group.
Buyers of International 4000 trucks can choose from 16 families of pre-packaged, “best-in-class” component groups, instead of 1,250 individual feature codes. Those groups are: chassis, brake system, axle and suspension, engine, transmission, engine control, driver environment, climate condition, tires, wheels, electrical system, cab and interior trim, cab exterior, fuel system, exhaust system and fifth wheel and towing.
The program can be used to order International 4000 models in five primary configurations: van, flatbed/stake, dump, refrigerated van and recovery.
Trucks ordered through this process receive Diamond Plus support services, which includes a standard two-year/unlimited mileage warranty. Optional benefits include three-, four- or five-year extended warranties, emergency breakdown service, replacement vehicles, next-day parts, diesel fuel card, engine oil and filter changes and “priority build” status.
In addition, Navistar is designing a Diamond Lease program with flexible leasing rates and low monthly payments for Diamond Spec for Medium customers.
