ITSA TESTS UNDER WAY
Many tests have been completed and others are in development, but these CVO tests are in progress:
Four separate projects at five locations that seek to ease congestion at international border crossings by pre-clearing some trucks for passage at points short of the border. Tests are under way at Otay Mesa, CA; at two bridges between El Paso, TX, and Juarez, Mexico; at the Peace Bridge, between Buffalo, NY, and Fort Erie, Ontario; and at the Ambassador Bridge, between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario.
The Oregon Green Light Commercial Vehicle Operations Test which includes weigh-in-motion pre-clearance at 22 weigh stations; the Road Weather Information System that informs motorists of quickly changing weather conditions; and the Downhill Speed Information System at two locations to calculate and display the safe downhill speed for each passing truck.
Operation Respond, being tested in Philadelphia and Houston which provides communications between hazmat carriers and emergency units.
The Idaho Out-of-Service system, which electronically identifies vehicles placed out of service by inspectors. If a registered vehicle shows up in service when it is not supposed to be, the system sounds alarm and notifies authorities.
