The SAE Brake Lining Performance Review Committee compiled this list of aftermarket brake linings that meet brake dynamometer requirements specified in FMVSS-121. Linings are listed in ascending torque value as measured at 40 psi during the test. The higher the number, the more aggressive the lining. This list is intended to help fleets replace worn OEM linings with replacements of similar torque value to help ensure brake torque balance.
Order is not based on brake lining quality. SAE and TMC stress that listings in this table do not constitute SAE or TMC approval, certification, endorsement or recommendation of products. It simply verifies that the lining material, as represented by the data, demonstrated its ability to meet FMVSS-121 requirements. Brake linings not on this list either were not tested or did not pass. Only successfully tested linings are listed.
CAUTION: Torque values of aftermaket linings should approximately match the OE linings they are replacing. If you give your vehicle dealer or OE manufacturer the serial number of your equipment, the vehicle manufacturer should be able to supply the original equipment lining formulation put on the vehicle at the time of manufacture.
Brake lining torque output by itself should not be used to measure total brake system performance. Due to variability in testing and lining composition, torques shown in this table are approximate only.
