Two Maintenance Options
Sprinter engineers have given customers a choice of two maintenance concepts, conventional and electronics assisted.
Customers choosing the conventional path will benefit from the Sprinter's long standard maintenance intervals. An oil change is required only every 10,000 miles, and maintenance service is required only every 30,000 miles because of the vehicle's large number of maintenance-free or low-maintenance components
In addition, an onboard maintenance calculator, called ASSYST, is available as optional equipment in the maintenance package. It is programmed to determine any maintenance needs as well as the actual increasing wear on parts.
Under certain conditions this permits much longer intervals between maintenance sessions, depending on the van's workload. ASSYST uses the interface between the cables in the engine and chassis to collect a complete range of information. It also checks the condition of the oil in the van's five-gear automatic transmission.
The next recommended service date is shown in a central dashboard display when the ignition key is in the second position on the steering wheel lock.
