Sloped Hood For Pete 357
Vocational customers will benefit from a redesigned hood that improves visibility and styling on Peterbilt's Model 357 in set-back front axle truck and tractor configurations. The slope improves over-the-hood visibility by up to 5 feet, and incorporates all the Peterbilt styling features, such as pod-mounted headlights, bicycle-style fenders and polished-aluminum crown and stainless steel grille.
Set-back front axle (SBFA) configurations are gaining in popularity because they help customers maximize payloads by more evenly distributing weight over the front axle of the vehicle. This allows customers to reduce the vehicle's wheelbase, tightening the turning radius and improving maneuverability.
Benefits of the new style include the careful positioning of the pod-mounted headlights to isolate them from minor bumper and fender damage, helping to keep the vehicle in service. Headlight design and placement also help reduce the accumulation of snow and ice for improved visibility and safety in wintry conditions. Additionally, the bicycle-style fenders can accommodate all-wheel-drive configurations and oversized wheels and tires often used in heavy-haul applications.
Trucks with the new hood also feature an advanced cooling system suited for a broad range of applications. According to Peterbilt, the cooling system allows customers to spec up to 600-horsepower engines.
The new hood and cooling system will be available later this year. Peterbilt's Model 357 in SBFA configurations is used in a wide variety of heavy-duty applications, including dump, mixer, oilfield, logging, heavy haul and tanker. The new hood requires no reduction of previous options and configurations.
Available across all Peterbilt models are new standard interiors. Rich colors, contemporary styling and a soft, leather-like feel are all featured.
The new Accent level interiors are available in Arctic Gray, Burgundy Wine, Saharan Tan and Maritime Blue with coordinating hard trim, carpeting and seats. The improved materials offer exceptional durability and are easy to keep clean.
The new Accent level interiors are standard on all Peterbilt Models 379, 378, 357 and 385 with day cab and cab/sleeper configurations, except for the UltraSleeper.
Peterbilt continues to offer optional interior choices, including the fabric Classic III interior, the American/Canadian level interior standard with the Peterbilt UltraSleeper configuration and the American/Canadian Platinum level interior.
New Options For Pete Mediums
Peterbilt's Medium-duty Model 330 now has a range of new options, including a new line of automatic transmissions, to help increase the vehicle's performance in a wide variety of applications.
Other options include heavy duty auxiliary helper spring and axle-mounted parking brake. The automatics are Allisons, available as the five-speed Allison 2000 and 2400 series transmissions, featuring two-pedal operation.
A Reyco auxiliary spring option, rated at 4,500 pounds, is interchangeable with the 3,000-pound rated spring, and is compatible with rear axles rated at 21,000, 23,000 and 26,000 pounds.
Model 330s spec'd with optional hydraulic brakes available for Class 6 configurations now come standard with the new Bosch axle-mounted driveline parking brake. The new parking brake replaces the transmission-mounted version and provides braking capacity for chassis rated at 26,000 pounds GVW and below.
