Names Both Snappy And Pedestrian

Why doesn't everybody call their tall-van products "stepvans?" It's a snappy name, but it's a trademark of General Motors Corp., which hasn't used it since before it turned over its P-chassis business to Workhorse. That company, in Union City, Ind., didn't get rights to the Stepvan name, though, so usually uses the more generic term, "walk-in van."
"Stripped chassis" and "forward control chassis" are other terms used by the industry, but these are also produced for motor homes. In fact, the builders sell more stripped chassis to motor home makers than for commercial use. So walk-in van better describes the chassis made for trucks, and is what the builders now tend to call their commercial chassis.
