Trucker Buddy Honors Drivers

Elementary school children participating in the Trucker Buddy program have a very special relationship with their trucker pen pals - who bring a long-haul view of America into the classroom. Every driver contributes his or her personal imprint, using videos of life on the road, school visits, even daily emails to enhance the experience.
Last year, classrooms across the nation were encouraged to nominate Truck Buddies for Driver of the Month. Nine drivers were selected out of the 4,000 who correspond regularly with more than 4,400 elementary classes.
A Trucker Buddy of the Year was to have been selected from the nine monthly honorees, says Ellen Voie, Trucker Buddy executive director. But choosing just one was too difficult, she says, "because they are all so amazing."
Instead, all Drivers of the Month were saluted together at the Mid-America Trucking Show. They are:
Ron Braden, Wal-Mart Private Fleet; Andria Watson, CFI Inc.; Larry Huguenard, Alternative Transport; Peter and Betty Born, ScottLynn Investments; Michael DeCorsey, Sonny Peterson Trucking; Bill and Robyn Taylor, LogEx Express.; Tom & Sandy Peters, Prager; Charles Ramos, Twin City Transportation; John Conway, Werhane Enterprises.
Trucker Buddy is a pen pal organization, funded entirely by members of the transportation industry, that promotes correspondence between truck drivers and elementary school classes.
