Rebuilding With A Difference

How can Global T-Fleet succeed where predecessor Mobile Messenger failed?
"We have an entirely different business model and we have the advantage of acquiring millions and millions of dollars of infrastructure for pennies on the dollar," said Greg Harper, Global T-Fleet national sales manager. "Our break-even is just extremely low."
Harper said that Global 2-way has been a two-way radio distributor since the mid-1990s. Mobile Messenger was a logical next step.
"They had a well-designed product. We did a lot of calling to former Terion customers. They liked the way the mapping software looked, the messaging software. Forty-four Terion customers came back on our system once we brought it back up.
"The network never did shut down, they kept a staff, which we ended up hiring. There was a staff of five people that continued to maintain the network and keep it operating and kept all the protocols running and all the scheduled data jobs running," said Harper.
Global 2-Way is rapidly building its FM network.
"We signed an agreement with Clear Channel, the largest FM station owner in the country. So we have all their stations available to us to build our network. Our constraint is really about getting the hardware out there and getting the station engineer to go out and hook it up and plug it in. We have plenty of stations ready to come online," Cox explained.
"We're somewhere around 85% of the Interstate Highway. We're not at full build-out yet. When we're done, about 97 or 97-and-a-half percent will be covered. That's going to be in June of this year," he said.
"Our price points are such that we can bring the solution to fleets that hadn't considered mobilecom an affordable solution," Harper said. "We have no upper limit, but we're focused on fleets of say 30 to 150 or 200 units."
Harper said interested fleets can evaluate Global T-Fleet for free.
"We'll send two, four, five units, depending on the fleet size. They're free to use it for 30 days. Then we ask them to make a decision," he said.
