Dana Launches New Spicer Axles
Dana Corp.'s Commercial Vehicle Systems Division has introduced a new family of single-speed, single-drive axles.
The new Dana Spicer axles feature increased approval ratings for high horsepower engines. The axles are said to be lighter weight and offer a broader ratio and application coverage and reliable and efficient gear technology, according to the company.
The Dana Spicer S23-190, S26-190 and S30-190 (S190 Series) axles begin production in November and are available for line haul, city delivery, LTL, refuse, fire/rescue, dump, mixer and other vocational/construction applications in either a straight truck or tractor-trailer configuration.
"These axles were designed to exceed current customer expectations for durability, reliability, and low maintenance requirements," said Steve Slesinski, product manager - drive axles, for Dana. "In achieving that, we've tapped into recent technological advances here at Dana, as well as incorporated many of Dana's existing patented drive axle features.
"We're very confident that these new systems will receive an enthusiastic reception from drivers, fleets and maintenance professionals throughout the industry."
Looking to meet current, as well as future, customer demands, Dana has designed the axles to perform well with vehicles outfitted with future drivetrain ratings of up to 2,450 lb.-ft. of torque, and up to 700 horsepower.
The S190 Series has an extra-wide face width with 470-mm (18.5-inch) primary hypoid gearing for quieter operation, greater strength and increased durability. A broad range of ratios - 2.69 to 7.83 - is available with the S23-190 model to allow for maximum flexibility in spec'ing options. The S26-190 and S30-190 models offer a ratio range of 3.42 to 7.83.
The standard warranty for the S190 Series is up to five years/750,000 miles for approved line-haul applications and with Dana approved factory-filled, synthetic lube.
The Dana Spicer S190 Series axles have a gross combination weight rating of up to 125,000 lbs., with the S23-190 carrying a gross axle weight (GAW) rating of 23,000 lbs.; the S26-190 has a GAW rating of 26,000 lbs.; and the S30-190 is rated at 30,000 lbs.
