      "Right now, trying to maintain service and parts literature is almost a full-time position," says David Foster, director of maintenance at Southeastern Freightlines in Columbia, S.C. "The parts and service information that's coming in here from the OE's can be overwhelming."
      Foster and other maintenance managers are hopeful that a project under way at TMC will help. Fleetportal.com will allow technicians of subscribing fleets to click on the equipment number and access the applicable parts and service information for that vehicle, explains Foster, whose fleet is going to be a "guinea pig" in testing the service.
      "If you go to an OE web site or they're sending you information on CD-ROM, everybody's got a little different look and feel, different navigation through their software or site. You can spend more time trying to find what you need than you spend actually working on the equipment."
