TCA Names New President, Board of Directors
The Truckload Carriers Assn. (TCA) has selected Christopher W. Burruss as the organization's new president.
In addition, the organization named Lance Craig as TCA chairman for 2004-2005 and elected other officers during the association's annual meeting last month at Hilton Waikoloa Resort Hotel in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
Burruss spent the past five years as president and CEO of the Tennessee Trucking Assn., a trade association representing more than 500 trucking and allied support companies based in and outside the state of Tennessee. The Tennessee Trucking Assn. is among the oldest state trucking associations and provides educational opportunities, legislative representation, networking and industry information to its members. From 1991 until 1999, Burruss served as vice president of the Missouri Motor Carriers Assn.
Burruss was raised in Jefferson City, Mo. After completing high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving for five years on active duty before being honorably discharged in 1991. He is a veteran of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
He is active in the trucking industry, serving on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the American Trucking Assns. (ATA), as well as its Intermodal Committee. He also serves on the Advanced Transportation Research Institutes Research Advisory Committee and the Board of Directors of HELP (Heavy Vehicle Electronic License Plate) Inc.
"Chris Burruss is a rising star in the trucking industry, and TCA is proud to have his knowledge, enthusiasm and experience serving our diverse membership," said Craig, the incoming chairman. "The Search Committee was impressed with his work at the Tennessee Trucking Assn. and believes he is truly the candidate best suited to fit TCA's needs. We anticipate a very productive partnership."
TCA Chairman Craig is president of Craig Transportation in Perrysburg, Ohio.
His company is a family-run business that has been around since 1972 and is TCA's oldest ambassador member. The company runs 100 trucks utilizing 340 dry van trailers and operates in the Midwest and Eastern Seaboard.
Craig has a long history of TCA involvement and service. He served as 2003-2004 first-vice chairman of TCA and has served as chairman of the North American Transportation Management Institute (NATMI) and as a board member of TCA's Truckload Academy.
