Driving Tips For City Trips

      • Walk around the truck before backing up.
      • Never back farther than you need.
      • Get assistance when backing on the blind side.
      • Don't trust traffic directions from other people.
      • Don't assume an intersection is clear when turning and following another vehicle.
      • Don't tailgate another vehicle from a stop to beat a light.
      • If there's a school, watch for children stepping off the curb.
      • Watch for pedestrians when turning at a light; in oncoming traffic at a four-way stop; in oncoming traffic at a protected turn.
      • Wear the seatbelt when driving.
      • Don't use a portable music player with headphones.
      • Use the cellphone as a tool, preferably at a stop — do not chat.
      • Know your brakes and stopping distance.
      • Look far ahead — three or four vehicles — not just at the vehicle in front.
      • Constantly check in mirrors during lane-changes.
      • Use headlights whenever windshield wipers are on.
      • Don't eat and drink while driving.
      • Read a streetfinder while stationary, not while driving.
      • Make sure pallet jack is secured if leaving door open.
      • Try not to turn left — take three right turns around the block.
      • Watch traffic entering from right — look at the driver.
