Private Fleet Tracks Financial Performance

      Fleet management systems provide private fleets with more than just dispatch automation.
      Unisource of Norcross, Ga., delivers paper, packaging and janitorial supplies from 100 distribution centers with a fleet of 1,000 tractors and straight trucks - among the largest private fleets in the U.S.
      According to director of delivery systems Ken Yeomans, Unisource turned to XATA in 1991 hoping to ease the paperwork burden of driver logs and fuel tax reporting; XATA brought automation to both. A study at the time showed a return-on-investment of seven months, Yeomans said.
      Now, he added, XATA's SQL (Structure Query Language) database enables Unisource to easily match driver performance with financial results.
      "We have a homegrown cost modeling product that gives us quick feedback on our fleet's financial performance," Yeomans said.
