Super Rigs
Ninety rigs compete in Shell's prestigious working truck beauty contest.
Tony and Robin Bartels, a husband and wife team, were named Best of Show winners at the 22nd annual Rotella SuperRigs Truck Beauty Contest, held June 24-26 at the Bosselman Travel Center in Grand Island, Neb. The decision was made after judges reviewed more than 90 working class trucks representing 24 states and three Canadian provinces.
The Bartels, who hail from Kahoka, Mo., had only one other truck beauty contest under their belts before this one. And that was at the SuperRigs contest in Lodi, Ohio last year, where they finished fifth in the Tractor category. This year, however, the Bartels' orange and white, meticulously clean and detailed 1994 Peterbilt 379 with a matching 2002 Fontaine lowboy trailer was a standout champion.
The contest, sponsored by Shell Rotella T heavy duty engine oil, had contestants competing for $10,000 in cash and prizes, plus an opportunity to appear in the 2005 Rotella SuperRig calendar.
Judges scored the rigs on exterior appearance, design, detail, and workmanship. Only working trucks operating in inter- or intrastate commerce were eligible. State DOT authority or ICC numbers on the truck were required for proof of entry.
Later this year - in plenty of time for 2005 - Rotella SuperRigs calendars will be available for purchase at www.rotella.com.
