Scheig Associates has a system aimed at identifying top performers. Part One of the test gauges ability and inclination to do the job. Part Two evaluates potential performance. Based on a 1998 demonstration project conducted by the ATA, Scheig's system may be especially helpful for screening driver training candidates.

Waypoint Research
Atlanta, Ga.
404-982-011
www.waypointresearch.com
Waypoint Research has a four-minute test the company claims will gauge driving skills. The company says the test measures two factors. One is channel capacity, or how fast a candidate can process information. The other is situational awareness, the ability to see the "big picture." The company says good over-the-road drivers typically have high channel capacity. Good P&D drivers, who must negotiate city traffic, score high on situational awareness.
