International 7700 Has Set-Forward Axle
Tom Berg
Equipment Editor
International Truck & Engine announced a model 7700 vocational truck with a forward-set steer axle, strong but lightweight 12.25-inch-high frame rails, and clean cab-to-rear-axle treatment for easy mounting of bodies.
The 7700 is aimed at dumpers, mixers, logging, tanker and other chassis that must meet bridge-formula laws, so its steer axle is positioned 29.1 inches behind the bumper. Its front suspension uses new multi-stage leaf springs for a smoother ride.
The 7700 is an offshoot of the 7600, so it will be available with Cummins ISM and Caterpiller C11 and C13 diesels, and Eaton and Allison transmissions. Like other 7000 series trucks, the new model uses a reinforced 4000 series cab and other modifications for severe-duty service.
The 7700 will be shown at the World of Concrete show in January in Las Vegas, and goes into production at International's Garland, Tex., plant in February.
