Michelin Unveils Addition To XZY3 Product Line
Michelin Americas Truck Tires has added the 315/80R22.5 XZY3 LRL size to its product line of XZY3 tires.
XZY3 tires are all-position radials designed for exceptional wear and traction in mixed on/off road service.
The new size in the XZY3 tire incorporates a long original tread life and a 23/32nd - inch tread depth, which increases mileage and improves durability. Compared to the XZY2 tire, the XZY3 provides an 11% increase in tread volume through a 5% increase in tread width, a 4% increase in tread depth and a 2% increase in net contact area.
In addition, the new co-extruded tread compound on the XZY3 tire offers protection against aggression, chipping and scaling while keeping the crown area of the tread cool for improved retreadability.
Hino Picks Hendrickson Comfort Air Suspension
Hino has selected Hendrickson's Comfort Air rear air-ride suspension on its new conventional medium-duty truck.
The single-axle suspension system delivers cargo protection, driver and rider comfort and enhanced handling while reducing body vibration and stress.

Webb Wheel Introduces Lightweight Hub
Webb Wheel Products Inc. has introduced a new lightweight ductile hub for TP trailer axles.
Significant design improvements have been incorporated into this new product to reduce weight while at the same time improving fatigue strength. Laboratory testing has shown this hub will save fleets about 72 pounds per trailer over standard ductile hubs.
The lightweight TP 2243 is interchangeable with Webb's current ductile and aluminum hubs for this trailer application. Production is under way at Webb's Cullman Alabama manufacturing facility. Additional applications are currently being designed and tested and will be announced to the industry when available.
Retreads Don't Hamper Fuel Economy
The October issue of Heavy Duty Trucking has an insert, Guide to Fuel Economy, which contains inaccurate information regarding fuel savings of original treads versus retreads. The article states, "Retreads usually offer more rolling resistance than original treads, according to TMC. Drive-axle tires still on their original tread can be up to 7% better on fuel than retreads."
On behalf of our retreader members, the Tire Retread Information Bureau takes strong exception to the above statement. Although the statement may have been valid years ago, with the onset of application specific retread tread designs offered by many of our members, retreads will easily run head to head with the best new tires - including in the area of fuel savings - at a far lower cost than comparable new tires.
With the unbelievably high fuel costs today, truckers need all the help they can get to reduce their tire expenses and retreads can do this. Not only will retreads help truckers reduce their tire costs, retreads with the proper application specific tread designs can also help truckers actually LOWER their fuel costs.
We will be happy to provide specific and detailed information about application specific retreads to any of your readers who contact us.
