Ram 1500 continues into '07 with the same "big-rig" styling, with Regular, Quad and MaxiCab versions – and it gets interior and powertrain refinements. The 5.7-liter Hemi has the fuel-saving Multi-Displacement System introduced last year that switches from V-8 to V-4 and back as needed to save up to 20 percent in fuel; the 4.7-liter V-8 can now burn E85 and other ethanol-blend fuels, while a 3.7-liter V-6 is available on certain two-wheel-drive models. On 4x4s, the front axle disconnects to reduce mechanical drag when the system is in 2WD; low-drag disc brakes likewise cut fuel consumption. Multi-stage air bags are standard and adjustable pedals are optional. Heavy Duty Rams, including the 2500, get a new 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel that will make up to 350 horsepower and 650 pounds-feet of torque; it will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and replace the current 5.9-liter diesel with its four-speed automatic in January. Standard engine is the Hemi V-8.
